3 Description
The TPS714 low-dropout (LDO) linear voltage
regulator is a low quiescent current device that
offers the benefits of a wide input voltage range
and low-power operation in miniaturized packaging.
Thus, the TPS714 is designed for battery-powered
applications and as a power-management attachment
to low-power microcontrollers.
The TPS714 is available in both fixed and adjustable
versions. For more flexibility or higher output voltages,
the adjustable version uses external feedback
resistors to set the output voltage from 1.205 V to
8.8 V. The TPS714 LDO supports a low dropout of
650 mV (typ) at 80 mA of load current. The low
quiescent current (3.2 μA typically) is stable over
the entire range of output load current (0 mA to 80
mA). The TPS714 (new chip only) also features an
internal soft-start to lower the inrush current. The builtin
overcurrent limit helps protect the regulator in the
event of a load short or fault.
The TPS714 is available in a 2-mm × 2-mm package
for use in high power dissipation applications and the
SC70-5 package is designed for hand-held and ultraportable
applications.
